Goals and Actions

2020 – 2021
During the unprecedented time of global pandemic, your library has continued to strive toward meeting our mission and upholding our core values of Access, Personalized Service, Literacy and Community Destination. We achieved this by:


  • Instituting curbside service, making almost all physical library materials available upon request, as well as creating new products such as grab-and-go bookbags and make-and-take project kits for youth and teens
  • Significantly increasing availability of digital materials by shifting acquisitions to electronic format and increasing the number of available borrows on our Hoopla and Kanopy streaming services
  • Creating a new e-newsletter to keep community members aware of changes to library status, available programs and more
  • Providing computer use and print and copy services in our vestibule while the main building was closed

Community Destination

  • Creating a presence online using Zoom, which allowed us to both continue providing excellent Plymouth Library events and partner with the Northville District Library to expand our event offerings
  • Offering concerts on our porch and 24/7 Wi-Fi service in our parking lot
  • Providing a space for people to “meet” on Zoom for events and clubs for all ages


  • Providing weekly online story readings during closure and then youth Storytimes online via Zoom
  • Continuing meetings of the English Language Learners reading and conversation groups
  • Hosting book club meetups for all ages online
  • Creating new virtual book club kits and virtual storytime kits

Personalized Service

  • Creating new tools to assist patrons of all ages in finding reading materials (youth Book Bundles, teen Book Match and adult I Need a Suggestion form)
  • Re-instituting our online chat feature and making staff available, even from home, to answer patron questions and provide assistance
  • Providing technology assistance by phone for users in need of help accessing online resources

Goal/Action: Identify and contribute to Little Free Libraries in Plymouth/Plymouth Township, which will create a new way for the community to access print materials and connect with other library services.

Value: Personalized Service: Every desk as a one-point service desk
Goal/Action: Identify core services that can be carried out at any service desk.

Value: Personalized Service: Expand free-form activities
Goal/Action: Create a materials advisory form on the web site that connects patrons with staff members who can provide materials suggestions based on their interests.

Teen Services:

Goal/Action: Organize a booth for Teens at Fall Festival that highlights library-provided services, events, and activities for teens both at the library and in the community.

Goal/Action: Implement pop-up library services such as book clubs and maker programs at schools, parks, youth groups, coffee shops, and other places teens congregate in order to make library services more accessible to teens outside of the library building.
